Exploring a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Poop on a Quest to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have found numerous engaging independent titles. Yet, one catches the eye for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel jumping adventure lets you play a hero that is literally a piece of poop striving to navigate to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."
The gameplay is easy to grasp: you only need a single jump button. Throughout 150 challenges, encounter boss fights and visit a store to buy outfits for your fecal avatar.
Execute your jumps with caution, as a error requires starting over. Leap off air pockets to hurl the poop to new heights, cross crumbling ledges, and activate switches to reveal secret routes. Collect currency to purchase tougher levels in which the action gets crazy.
Visually, the game shows off vibrant level designs and catchy soundtrack. Its minimalist graphics featuring morphing basic polygons evokes memories of players of old favorites like Earthbound.
Even though difficult to think of similar titles where you play as a coiled turd, gaming have long incorporated toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as plant food. Naturally, this theme is present heavily in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its silly concept, Unko Technica has already earned significant accolades, such as being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is ready now on Steam, with the full game planned to debut on computers this November.
