Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No police reports were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the initial part of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
